Google Hotel Ads explained

How Google Hotel Ads works, what it costs, and why every independent hotel should be there — even on a small budget.

Where Google Hotel Ads shows up

When a guest searches "hotels in Florence" or a specific property name on Google, they see a map pack, a Hotel Search panel, and — inside that panel — a prices module comparing rates from Booking.com, Expedia, and your direct website.

That prices module is Google Hotel Ads.

Why it matters more than most channels

It's the moment the guest is comparing your direct rate against the OTAs, on the same screen. Winning that click is often the difference between a €0 commission booking and a 17% one.

How the pricing works

You can bid on either a CPC (cost-per-click) or a commission-per-stay basis. Commission-per-stay is usually the safer starting point for independent hotels — you only pay when the guest actually stays.

What you need to be there

  • A hotel booking engine with a certified Google integration
  • Clean, consistent rates and availability feeds
  • A price shown on your own website that's at least on par with the OTAs

Realistic expectations

Most independent hotels see Google Hotel Ads become one of their top three direct acquisition channels within a season of running it properly.
